1. ANIMAL ID PROGRAM - “SAFETrak”: LATELY, IT SEEMS WE’VE GONE FROM ASKING, “WHERE’S THE BEEF?” TO ASKING “WHERE DOES THE BEEF COME FROM?” - AND THE SAME QUESTION GOES FOR ALL OF OUR LIVESTOCK.  THROUGH THE ANIMAL I-D PROGRAM, SPECIALISTS, VETERINARIANS, AND PRODUCERS INTEND TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION. 3. INTERNATIONAL TEAMWORK FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS: VIRGININA TECH ENGINEERING STUDENTS ARE TRAVELING ACROSS MULTIPLE TIME ZONES EACH WEEK TO COLLABORATE WITH STUDENTS FROM OTHER UNIVERSITIES, BUT THEY’RE NOT RACKING UP FREQUENT FLYER MILES.  THEY’RE DOING IT FROM A SPECIALLY DESIGNED CLASSROOM IN RANDOLPH HALL ON CAMPUS IN BLACKSBURG. 4. GRAZING CATTLE ON RECLAIMED MINE LAND: LIFE IN FAR SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA HAS ITS UPS AND DOWNS, LITERALLY - FROM THE ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS WITH THE CLOSING OF THE COAL MINES, TO THE UP AND DOWN TOPOGRAPHY OF THE LAND ITSELF.  BUT ONE CATTLE PRODUCER HAS FOUND AN UPSIDE TO THE AFTERMATH OF SURFACE MINING, AND THINGS FOR HIM ARE ON THE UPSWING.
