Stations, thousands of Virginia Tech friends and family were in attendance Sunday afternoon as the university dedicated a memorial to the victims of April 16.

Cut 1:

Zenobia Hikes, Vice-President for Student Affairs, told families and friends of the victims that each had already made their mark on our society.

Adeel Khan (uh-DEAL KAHN) is president of the Student Government Association.  He asked those in attendance to preserve the memory and the spirit of the victims in everything they do.

President of the Faculty Senate Valerie Hardcastle said she hoped those killed and injured will be remembered in many ways. And she said this memorial will remind the world of the spirit of Virginia Tech.

Scott Cheatham (CHEET-um) spoke on behalf of Hokies United, the group formed after the tragedy, and the group responsible for the original makeshift memorial after which this new one is modeled. He noted the Hokie Stone markers in memory of each person who died.

Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said we are still seeking, and will continue to seek answers as to why the tragedy happened.  He spoke of the diverse backgrounds of the victims.
